Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) work with individuals who have developmental disabilities in the residential program. DSPs assist person served to become more integrated in their communities by maximizing individual strengths, interests, and abilities. The aim is for the person served to direct their own activities that create a meaningful life including contributing to the community and developing relationships. DSPs ensure that meaningful and person-centered services are provided to individuals participating in independent living services; DSPs implement the services for each individual per service descriptions, rules, and regulations. DSPs will follow and implement all Individual Service Plans and provide daily documentation on services provided. DSPs will assist individuals as needed with all activities of daily living as outlined in their individual plan as well as grocery shopping, housekeeping, bookkeeping, etc., and provide opportunities for community activities and social interactions that are age-appropriate and of their choosing. DSPs assist in scheduling, transportation, and communications with all ongoing medical appointments as needed as well as assist with medication management as needed.Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED
- Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class E driver’s License
- Ability to pass and maintain required trainings such as CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, and Positive Behavioral Support Training
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Ability to perform each essential duty and responsibility
- Exceptional teamwork and problem-solving ability
Working Conditions:
DSPs work in a changing environment that adjusts to the needs of the persons served in program services. The environment may be fast paced with interruptions, distractions, and deadlines. DSPs need to be flexible and be able to adjust to changing needs or activities. Depending on the needs of the individuals, the work can be physically demanding including transferring or supporting people with mobility needs, lifting, or moving items up to 50 lbs., walking or standing for extended periods of time, or providing support through CPR/First Aid, behavioral support, and other interventions.
