Stone County Ambulance District Dedicates Station Serving Southern Stone County

LAMPE, MO — March 31, 2026 — The Stone County Ambulance District (SCAD) proudly announces the dedication of its ambulance station in Lampe, marking a significant milestone in expanding the district’s emergency medical services coverage for the Southern Stone County communities. The facility officially opened in 2004, following a development and construction process by the Southern Stone Betterment Association (SSBA).

This station was purposely built by the SSBA in effort to improve ambulance service coverage to the residents south of the Kimberling City bridge. A group of community members saw a need and worked tirelessly to bring a Mercy ambulance closer to their area. The charter members of the association located and purchased the ground for this station, then banded together to build a facility that Mercy EMS could lease from them and use as an additional ambulance station location. This partnership has worked well for more than three decades.

Now that the Stone County Ambulance District has taken over operating ambulance service for the county, the SSBA has decided it is time to turn the property over to the district. After careful planning and negotiations, SCAD officially took possession of the station on December 31, 2025. The district has agreed to maintain and operate the ambulance station, manning it with a 24-hour ambulance. Since the district contracts Mercy EMS, they will continue to work from the same location but are no longer responsible for renting the space.

Today, we celebrate the hard work and dedication of the SSBA Members who made this station possible. The Charter Members are Carl Herington, Robert “Ha-Bob” Stimson, James “Jim” Elder, Janet Phillips, Dean Baerwald, Jack King, Tom Blake, Al Olson, Rosanne McEvoy, and Attorney Loyd Francis. This facility will now be referred to as SCAD Station 3 and a plaque on the building commemorates the SSBA’s development of this station and their dedication to caring for the community.

The station features a living room, kitchen, and bedrooms accommodating two EMS personnel, as well as dedicated areas for equipment and medical supply storage. The facility is equipped with essential utilities and a back‑up generator to ensure continuous readiness for emergency response.

“We are so appreciative of the SSBA and their work to provide this station to the community,” said Jeff Hawkins, Executive Director of the Stone County Ambulance District. “The donation to the ambulance district puts us ahead of schedule in the development of ambulance stations across our service area.”

Hawkins added that this location enhances system deployment across the district. “Having this station allows us to continue providing quicker responses to areas on the south side of Table Rock Lake, improving service for the community.”

Mercy EMS will continue operating from Station 3 as the contractor for SCAD. Bob Patterson, Executive Director for Mercy EMS said, “It has and continues to be an honor to serve the southern Stone County area from this location. We are very appreciative of the SSBA for developing this site and allowing us to operate from this strategic location.” He went on to say, “Now that SCAD has assumed ownership of the station, we expect to be able to provide the same level of high-quality service and quick response the community expects.”
